It's yet another sub-4 metre SUV debuting in India. Ladies and gentlemen, say hello to the Renault Kiger. Priced from Rs 5.45 lakh (ex-showroom), it gets two petrol engines and is available in four variants. The Kiger won't have it easy, considering it will primarily rival the already well-received Kia Sonet, Nissan Magnite, and the Tata Nexon.

Renault, however, has priced the Kiger competitively, undercutting almost all its competitors, including the Magnite. Here are the detailed prices:

Dual-tone options retail at Rs 17,000 more than their monotone counterparts. Therefore, the top-end RXZ CVT, costing Rs 9.55 lakh, will be priced at Rs 9.72 lakh, if you go for dual-tone. Meanwhile, the turbo-petrol MT commands a premium of Rs 1 lakh over the NA petrol MT.

The Kiger is offered in six colours: blue, red, brown, silver, white, and grey. The dual-tone option with the black roof is offered across the range.

The Kiger is based on Renault-Nissan's CMF-A+ platform that underpins the Triber and Magnite. Considering the Magnite scored an impressive '4 star' in the Global NCAP crash test, you can expect the Kiger to fare similarly. It offers a decent safety kit as well, including four airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors with camera, and electronic stability control.

The Kiger gets two 1.0-litre petrol engines: a naturally aspirated and a turbocharged unit. Both the engines power the Magnite as well. However, unlike the Nissan that gets an AT only for the turbo-petrol motor, the Renault offers an automatic transmission for both the units. Here are the specs:

The Kiger packs an 8-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 7-inch digital coloured instrument display, steering-mounted audio controls, an Arkamys sound system, keyless entry with push button start, LED headlamps, and automatic climate control. However, it misses out on a sunroof and cruise control. A Philips PM 2.5 AC filter and a wireless phone charger come as extras.

It is loaded with features, has decent space for five occupants, and houses an adequately powerful turbo-petrol engine. We'll be comparing the Kiger with its rivals soon, so stay tuned.
