Mahindra Thar Removable Hard-Top In The Works
- Mahindra Thar could get a convertible hard-top variant.
- It's likely to come at a premium over the existing hard-top variant.
- Should be offered with both 2.0-litre petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines.
- The Thar is currently priced from Rs 12.10 lakh.
The continues to be on automotive paparazzi's radar even after launch and it has now been spotted testing once again. The Thar you see in these pictures could be of the removable hard-top variant. Currently, the Thar is offered in two body styles: a convertible soft-top and a fixed hard-top.
At first glance, it looks similar to the standard hard-top variant but a closer look reveals the roof is split into three segments, rather than the two-piece unit found in the fixed hard-top variant. Even the mounts on the rear screen are different, indicating it could be a removable hard-top variant.
One can remove the existing fixed hard-top variant's roof for that wind-in-the-hair experience. But doing so will void the warranty and claims the roof might not be waterproof again as there's a thick sealant between the roof and the frame.
A convertible hard-top might result in the best of both worlds as one can drop the roof when required or have a better in-cabin experience with the roof up while driving on the highway. The convertible soft-top's roof flaps around excessively as you pick up pace, resulting in an unrefined interior.
We have no official confirmation on when Mahindra will launch the convertible hard-top variant though. Prices for the new Thar were recently hiked and it now starts from Rs 12.10 lakh (ex-showroom).
