2021 Mahindra Thar Deliveries Delayed Due To Infotainment Supply Issue

  • The second-gen Thar was launched on October 2, 2020.

  • The current waiting period for the Thar stands at a minimum of eight to nine months.

  • There is no word on the extent of the delay in deliveries.

Ever since the launch of the second-gen Thar in October 2020, it has performed quite well. Still, there remains one problem. The waiting period is too long, and despite Mahindra's vows to ramp up production and reduce the wait time, the pandemic's aftereffects stand in the way. A global shortage of semiconductors is the primary reason why the new Thar will not reach customers anytime soon.

A semiconductor plays a massive role in the electronics of a car, and the lack of one can be concerning. The Thars sitting at the dealerships have no infotainment system due to this problem, leading to a stay on deliveries til the displays arrive and are fitted at the dealership.

The second-gen Thar is offered with a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system that provides a bunch of features like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, Mahindra's Ecosense (manual only), tyre pressure monitor, Adventure Statistics for your off-road escapades, roll-pitch meter, and an altimeter.

Available in two trims -- AX Opt and LX, the Thar gets factory-fitted convertible soft top and fixed hardtop roof options. Plus, it gets a choice of both petrol and diesel engines. While a 6-speed manual gearbox is standard, the optional 6-speed automatic transmission is limited to the top-spec LX variant.

There is no official word on the extent of the delay, but dealers are offering customers a glimpse of the four-seater SUV at the dealership until the deliveries can be completed. The second-gen Thar is priced from Rs 12.10 lakh to Rs 14.15 lakh (ex-showroom).
