MG has been quite vocal about its plans to bring the ZS SUV to India, ever since its debut at Auto Expo 2020. Its electric counterpart, the ZS EV, has been on sale here for over a year. The ICE-powered version of the SUV has now been spotted once again, as we inch closer to its expected launch early next year.
had revealed important design aspects of the upcoming SUV, including the fact that it will be based on the facelifted version, which launched in other markets this year. Unlike the ZS EV, which is based on the pre-facelift version, the ZS will get quite a few nips and tucks both inside and out.
While the ZS may not share its electrical counterpart's affinity for the environment, it is likely to have the same interior layout, save for a few upgrades. The ZS will also get a panoramic sunroof but might see the analogue dials replaced by a digital instrument cluster. Expect the features and technology to be on par with the ZS EV.
It is offered with multiple petrol engines overseas, but we expect the India-spec ZS to come with just one: a 1.3-litre turbo-petrol unit. It comes paired to a 6-speed AT as standard and puts out 160PS and 230Nm. The other engines offered overseas are a 111PS/160Nm 1.0-litre turbo-petrol unit and a 120PS/150Nm 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine.
