Indian Oil Launches XP100 100 Octane Petrol In India

  • This blend of petrol is targeted at high performance cars.

  • XP100 petrol adds extra grunt, more acceleration and better driveability.

  • Comes at a hefty price tag of Rs 160 per litre in Delhi, almost double the price of regular 91 octane petrol.

  • Available in 10 cities with 5 more cities to follow soon.

Currently, regular petrol in India is rated as 91 octane, and octane rating isn't much of a talking point for mass market vehicles. Instead it's more of an importance for those with high end cars. As such, Indian Oil has gone ahead and launched the XP100 petrol in the country with a new premium petrol benchmark of 100 octane.

Octane rating is well known as a yardstick of knock resistance, a condition where the fuel auto-ignites via heat and pressure within the cylinders. It can cause damage to the engine in the long run, but the higher the octane rating, the better the knock resistance.

While this premium petrol may have very little benefits to mass market cars, it is ideal for high performance models from the likes of range. The benefits include faster acceleration, a bit more grunt under the hood and better drivability. That said, all this comes at a hefty price tag of Rs 160 per litre in Delhi. That's nearly double the rate of regular petrol.

XP100 is currently being offered in Delhi, Gurgaon, Noida, Agra, Jaipur, Chandigarh, Ludhiana, Mumbai, Pune and Ahmedabad. Indian Oil also plans to extend its availability to Chennai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Bhubaneswar, making the XP100 available in 15 cities.
