Daimler And Geely To Co-Develop Next-Gen Hybrid Engines

Your future model could share the same heart as their parent companies, Daimler AG and Geely Holding Group are partnering to develop the 'next generation' of hybrid powertrains. This collaboration also includes engineering, sourcing, industrialization and efficiency measures.

The new powertrains will be produced at facilities in Europe and China, which could make its way to both future Mercedes-Benz and Volvo cars. A newly established unit for Mercedes called Mercedes-Benz Drive Systems will be spearheading this project. The engines themselves could be exported from China.

One of the main aims for this partnership is to further accelerate their transition to emission free vehicles. For Mercedes-Benz, this falls in line with its 'Ambition 2039' targets which is the and achieving carbon neutrality. Mercedes-Benz also aims to have half of its passenger car sales to be plug-in hybrids or purely electric vehicles by 2030.



Aside from this, Daimler AG and Geely Holding Group are also working on developing new Smart cars as well as mobility services for the Chinese market. Overall, plenty to look forward to in the coming years from both carmakers. Expect some of the initial fruits of this partnership to surface from 2021 onwards.
