Tata Harrier Dark Edition XT launched at Rs 16.50 lakh

The stealthy Tata Harrier Dark Edition was launched in August last year; an all-black variant for those who preferred a more sinister look for Tata’s flagship SUV. So far, it was only available in top-spec XZ and XZ+ forms, but Tata has now made the Dark Edition range more accessible by extending it to the mid-spec variants as well. The Tata Harrier Dark Edition XT is now the entry-level variant, priced at Rs 16.50 lakh, while the Dark Edition XT+ costs Rs 17.30 lakh (all prices, ex-showroom).

  • Tata Harrier Dark Edition range now starts at Rs 16.50 lakh

  • Dark Edition now available in mid-spec XT and XT+ trims

  • Price of standard Harrier XT+ hiked by Rs 21,000

New Tata Harrier Dark Edition variants

Previously, the entry point to the Tata Harrier Dark Edition range was the XZ, which is priced at Rs 17.85 lakh. With the introduction of the mid-spec XT variant, the Dark Edition range starts Rs 1.35 lakh lower than before.

Unique to the Harrier Dark Edition are the Atlas Black exterior paint, darkened elements – such as the black faux skid plates and darkened headlamp inserts – a ‘#Dark’ front fender badge and black 17-inch alloys.

The Tata Harrier Dark Edition’s interior too is all-black, with black leatherette seats and door trim, and a ‘Blackstone Matrix’ trim on the dash instead of the standard faux wood inserts.

Equipment levels for the Dark Editions remain the same as for the standard Harrier XT and XT+ variants. The XT gets auto climate control, an 8-way adjustable driver’s seat, rear-view camera, projector headlights, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 6-speaker audio system, to name a few. The XT+, meanwhile, adds a large panoramic sunroof for an additional Rs 80,000.

Tata Harrier Dark Edition XT, XT+ powertrain details

The new Tata Harrier Dark Edition XT and XT+ variants continue to be powered by a 2.0-litre diesel engine that puts out 170hp and 350Nm of torque. However, unlike the Dark Edition XZ and XZ+ – which can also be had with a 6-speed automatic gearbox – the XT and XT+ are available only with a 6-speed manual.

Like the higher-spec XZ models, the price difference between the standard and Dark Edition Harrier XT and XT+ variants is only Rs 10,000.

Along with the introduction of the new Dark Edition variants, Tata has also hiked the price of the recently-launched standard Harrier XT+ by Rs 21,000, so it now costs Rs 17.20 lakh.

More Tata Dark Editions could be on the way

In what will be heartening news for those wanting a similarly stealthy look for some of Tata’s more affordable models, Tata Motors has also filed trademarks for ‘Dark’ and ‘Camo’ editions of the Tiago, Altroz, Tigor, Nexon and the upcoming 7-seat Gravitas SUV.
