Triumph Street Triple R launch on August 11
Triumph Motorcycles India will launch the new Street Triple R in India on August 11, 2020. In keeping with the coronavirus pandemic situation, the launch will take place on the company's official social media channel where the price of the new streetfighter will be revealed.
-
New Street Triple R to replace the Street Triple S as the new base model for India.
-
Powered by a 765cc inline-triple that produces 118hp and 77Nm.
-
Expected to be priced around the Rs 9.5 lakh mark.
The new Triumph Street Triple R replaces the Street Triple S as the base model for India and sits below the range-topping Street Triple RS. That said, it is far better equipped than the Street Triple S it replaces.
The Street Triple R gets an up-down quickshifter, fully adjustable suspension from Showa, Brembo M4.32 brake calipers up front, and Pirelli Diablo Rosso III tyres. It also gets a pretty decent set of electronics, but it is still not at par with the Street Triple RS, which gets two additional riding modes. The R also does not get the RS' swanky TFT screen.
These differences aside, the R's 765cc, triple-cylinder engine also produces less power and torque than the RS. At 118hp and 77Nm, it is just 5hp and 2Nm down on the Street Triple RS.
While these differences clearly separate the base Street Triple R from the Street Triple RS, we expect a similarly big gap in the prices as well.
Our estimate is that the Triumph Street Triple R may be priced around Rs 9.5 lakh, which is much lower than the Rs 11.33 lakh (ex-showroom, India) the Street Triple RS commands.
In terms of competition, the Street Triple R goes up against the Kawasaki Z900 and the KTM 790 Duke, which is expected to go on sale in its BS6 form soon.
