Jehan Daruvala Scores Season Best 4th In F2 Round Four Sprint Race

It was an action-packed sprint race in the fourth round of the FIA Formula 2 Championship at Silverstone. Carlin's Jehan Daruvala scored a season-best 4th place. On the other side of the garage, fellow Red Bull junior driver Yuki Tsunoda retired early on due to an incident in the opening lap.

Starting 12th for the sprint race, Daruvala made a far better start than he had in the and held onto his starting position. For most of the 21-lap race, Daruvala was in a battle with Jack Aitken for 11th place, showing little sign of being able to improve. However, in lap 16, the safety car was called out due to Callum Ilot retiring from the race. This transformed the race and led to a frantic finish.

Pitting under the safety car for a fresh set of medium compound tyres and with only four laps to go, Jehan Daruvala sliced through the field with his tyre advantage and some sublime overtakes and snatched 4th from Nikita Mazepin at the final corner of the final lap to score his best finish of the season with 8 points on the board.

Overall, it was a weekend of two halves for Jehan Daruvala, with the latter being more positive. While this points haul doesn't change Daruvala's 13th place in the drivers standings, it brings him a step closer to the top 10. What's more, he has another chance to improve on that 4th place next week when the F2 returns to Silverstone from August 7 for round 5 of the FIA Formula 2 Championship. It will be the support race for the F1 70th Anniversary Grand Prix.
