Geneva Motor Show 2021 GIMS Cancelled Next Edition To Be Held In 2022

If you've been waiting for the Geneva Motor Show 2021, we have some rather bad news for you. The 2021 edition of GIMS has been cancelled as the financial consequences of axing the 2020 edition courtesy the ongoing pandemic. The committee and foundation board of the organisers have decided that the show will now be held in 2022 instead.

GIMS 2020 was scheduled to take place between March 5 and 15, however, it following the Swiss Federal Council's decision to not hold any event with more than 1,000 people until March 15, 2020. As a result, the organisers had to face huge losses. The lack of revenue combined with the current health situation meant it would be quite difficult to attract visitors for the 2021 edition.

The foundation had requested the federal council to support the losses which is estimated to be 11 million Swiss Francs. It must be mentioned that the council approved a loan of 16.8 million Swiss Francs back in June to cover the loss. But the organisers turned it down as they did not see the terms of the loan as a guarantee of the long-term financial stability of the foundation in its present form.

Though GIMS isn't the largest motor show, it's a platform for manufacturers to display their swankiest cars. This unfortunate turn of events adds to the growing argument that motor shows are in fact dying.
